George Washington was a man's man. County surveyor at 17. Negotiating with the French army in Ohio at 20. Unchallenged commander of the Continental Army for 8 years (the entire length of the war), and humble president who voluntarily turned down a third term in office, as well as the establishment of an inherited nobility. He rocks.

Your prof probably didn't argue that humans evolved from bacteria. She would probably agree that both humans and bacteria have a common source. She believes that both species evolved - in the sense of one species turning into another - from a common ancestor.

I see things a little differently, though. I think the similarity of genomes across species is evidence that there is one creator, and he had a big pile of building blocks from which he "built" all the different species. No species-to-species evolution.

I am reading a book called "Real Food" by Nancy Planck. It goes right along with what you are saying. As I read, through the eyes of a nurse, I see not only economic and social benefits- but health. The morbidity rates in our country are horrid- diabetes, cancers, heart disease. I see eating minimally processed and handled food as preventative medicine. I don't think our bodies were created (yes, I said created) to handle the chemicals and preservatives in these convenience and mass produced foods. Our bodies were created to filter out toxin and dangers, but when the amount of those toxins are disproportionate to the real foods that build and strengthen our immunity I see a connection to our state of health or un-health.

I recently heard an ex-conservative politician make a statement that our country is governed by the minority. I would agree. The radical minority liberal groups are loudest and most persistent, so they are the ones calling the shots, it would seem, while the majority of conservative Americans sit back and fold their hands and don't want to get involved.
